News 3D Experiences for Amazon Sellers: What to Know and How to Prepare

As one of the world’s top retailers, Amazon continues to raise the bar by empowering merchants with new tools. Now, even third-party sellers can offer more interactive offerings with the marketplace’s 3D capabilities.

Giving shoppers a closer and complete look at products makes a difference. The latest data show the number of customers using augmented reality to view items grew eightfold in four years. Indeed, the advantages of 3D go even further. Amazon found purchases doubled when consumers could view a product in 3D or use the AR Virtual Try-On feature. When Amazon View in Your Room was enabled on products, sales increased by 9% on average.

But while the perks of 3D experiences are clear, many merchants may not know where to begin. As Amazon’s top volume provider, Loft3Di understands the model specifications, quality standards and rigorous quality assurance required to meet the marketplace’s requirements. To help you get started on your Amazon 3D journey, we’ve put together a primer on what you need to know about the 3D experiences available, what to do to prepare and how to integrate them into your operations.

Know your options

Before you start integrating AR into your Amazon storefront, you’ll want to know more about the four types of interactive 3D experiences on offer:

Virtual Try-On or VTO: Primarily enabled for footwear and eyewear products, this option gives shoppers the brick and mortar experience of visualizing new frames on their face or new shoes on their feet before they click “add to cart.”

View in 3D: Customers can pinch, zoom, and rotate with this function to view products from all angles and get a closer look at all the spiffy details.

Showroom: The function allows customers to configure their own virtual room with furniture of their choice, mixing and matching as they go.

View in Your Room: An experience that lets customers view products in their own space. Primarily enabled for furniture and home decor products, but available for some accessories like luggage, this function provides a better sense of a product’s dimensions and color.

While some experiences are currently enabled only for certain products, that’s sure to expand as Amazon data and test results inform where the technology rolls out next.

With an understanding of the available 3D experiences, you can assess which of your products will be the best fit. Once you’ve decided what 3D models you’ll need, Loft3Di will step in.

Prepare to get your storefront 3D experiences up and running

As a preferred Amazon 3D modeling partner, you’re in good hands with Loft3Di’s in-house expertise to make the experience seamless.

We’ll ask you to submit some basic identifying information and a list of the Amazon Standard Identification Numbers (ASINs) for the products you’ve selected. From there, Loft3Di can take the reins. We’ll assess the products and work with Amazon to determine which experiences are enabled for your products. Based on those details we’ll then create a price list for your approval.

Once pricing is approved, production of your 3D modeling begins. Once completed, the Loft3Di modeling team will submit the models to Amazon for a thorough QA inspection. Once they’ve passed, the models will be published to your PDP directly through Amazon’s pipeline.

We handle the tough stuff so you can focus on deciding where 3D will make the biggest difference to your customers – and your business.

Stay ahead of the curve of new capabilities and features

Amazon is constantly upping the game and adjusting its program, but that doesn’t mean you’ll have to start from square one.

For instance, the marketplace keeps an eye on analytics and may add more experiences to your PDP. In that case, partnering with a 3D modeling company like Loft3Di means there’s no need to order new models – the models we create will be compatible for all of Amazon’s 3D experiences.

We’re also prepared to take on Amazon’s newest features. With the marketplace’s newest scanning tool arriving soon, even the most intricate 3D models don’t have to be cost-prohibitive.

Merchants and vendors will be able to scan their product and send the file to Loft3Di. We’ll enhance the file to ensure the 3D model meets Amazon’s specifications before publishing to your PDPs.

Amazon invests in these tools because the data shows 3D experiences can convert browsers into buyers. But even beyond the purchase funnel, the technology makes business operations more efficient. Merchants can save on product photography and create marketing content without time-consuming studio setup. Plus, the high-quality 3D models we create can be used beyond product detail pages to create videos or animations.
