Loft3Di Tech Watch: Here’s what we’re watching in the Immersive/3D space…

3D tech moves fast and it can be difficult to keep up with what’s really changing the game and what’s still theoretical or experimental. Emerging technologies leveraging real-time graphics and advanced automation are revolutionizing sectors from healthcare to construction to e-commerce.

With our comprehensive experience across verticals in 3D content creation and 3D/XR tool implementation, Loft3Di is staying on top of what’s new and exciting in tech — while keeping our finger to the wind on what needs more work before we add it to our workflow.

Our 3D modeling production experts stay on top of the latest developments in our sector, and have rounded up some highlights of 2025 thus far in the 3D space:

  • New home design and visualization apps that leverage easy-to-use interactive 3D tools

Home design is a big investment –– so it’s not surprising people love an opportunity to see the possibilities come to life with 3D. Configurators are in high demand, with 95% of consumers saying they’d use the technology to visualize their product.

Straightforward, interactive 3D tools and apps make the home design process even more accessible. Using the technology eases shoppers’ anxiety and helps designers and manufacturers show their customers what’s possible. With so many positives, this is a 3D experience that’s easy to love.

  • AI tools that improve the production pipeline

While 3D scanning has grown leaps and bounds to make modeling easier, faster, and more efficient, there is still a lot it cannot do. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is helping to fill that gap. The 3D files captured by scanning apps aren’t perfect, but AI can help improve their quality.

This is just one example of how AI tools are providing solutions and making production pipelines more efficient. While technology still isn’t capable of replicating human creativity or commitment, it can help make the 3D modeling process smoother.

  • Virtual fitting rooms

Companies from H&M to marketplace giant Amazon have adopted their own iterations of this experience where platforms harness augmented reality (AR) and AI to let users try on clothes virtually.

For shoppers who want to avoid pushy sales clerks and achieve the perfect fit, this technology is revolutionary. A convenient and engaging solution, digital fitting rooms are getting more accurate and accessible all the time. There’s no doubt about it: this is a 3D experience worth investing in.

The promising developments we’re keeping an eye on…

Some technologies have piqued our interest to the point where we are eager to test them in our production pipelines, but others we’re waiting to see what else in store was they evolve…

  • New design apps that claim to solve all your problems with AI.
  • Scanning apps that claim to create perfect 3D files.
  • AI-generated fashion models replacing humans.

From hallucinations in LLMs to AI image generators incapable of rendering an accurate details such as human hands, AI technology alone is not yet capable of achieving the level of specification and quality that discerning clients need for their creative pipeline . Though it can certainly streamline and improve workflows, it’s hard to accept the lofty promises of AI tools that claim immediate perfection.

It’s the same with 3D scanning. While the technology holds a lot of promise, we have yet to see an app or service render a perfect 3D file. Until that’s possible, scanned files still require cleaning up, and that’s something we help many of our clients with.

Innovation in  3D, CGI and AR is also moving at a rapid pace. The field is changing all the time, and many of the advancements we have are already proving themselves to be well worth the investment. Virtual fitting rooms, production pipeline efficiencies, and stellar home design apps are the kinds of applications that underpin our mission to ensure our clients have scalable CGI content readily available to power the 3D experiences they envision.
